I waited until punch cards were no longer at use at university, then I switched majors to computer science.

Saw a Hollerith card held up by the professor to show us what they look like, but never used one, nor a key punch machine, nor a card sorter.

Did use a Dec Vax 11/730 for my Pascal homeworh though. With Dec VT102 vacuum tube/valve terminals and a 132 column green bar printer.

Wynona, I like the name choice you've made , for your new class. .....I'm guessing it will be tons of fun for those attending
as well as for yourself . I wish we had someone to teach our age group classes on how to Skype as well.
....... GOOD LUCK WITH YOUR CLASSES!

    Thanks, I like it too.

So, we have Windows 10 classes for Seniors, and our Skype group will be Senior Clickers.

I'm also a member of a class on genealogy and since working online with genealogy goes hand-in-hand with Windows 10, we're also going to create a Skype genealogy group. Of course, I'm the "assistant" in that I do the computer thing for the class. At any rate, we named this group Silver Clickers!

Most of us are members of both classes, so we'll be interacting on both groups.

Interesting, I have a client [just there helping her on Friday] who does a lot of work on her family along with big in the local DAR folks. BUT, she is using Mac computers, Notebook is too old now and iMac is okay running the latest version of Family Tree Maker for Mac.

When I was in the USMC back in the early '70s I was part of a computerized communications test team

Our testing generated tens of boxes of punch cards and as a lowly E3, guess what I had to do

I would never, ever admit I'd ever seen a keypunch machine

Of course, now that Keypunches are museum pieces I FINALLY feel safe

The closest to key punch I got was for time cards in the '60s but we were also using TT/TeleType Corp. machines that punched chadless holes in paper tape for transmitting weather reports and flight plans to a central mainframe near K. City.

Never had the joy of time cards. When I had to submit a time record for work, it was either me filling out a paper form, or I went online and filled it out electronically after logging in.

I saw punch cards when I went over to the supply depot for electronic parts. But there was no room for such gear aboard the DDG I was stationed on.

Work the math backwards. 51 would have been 20 somethings at the birth of the Internet, and 70 would be prime working years at age 20s and 30s with the mainframes and PCs just starting in the 80s. Lots of retirees here fit those time frames.
