Microsoft said it is not for the average consumers. I notice it says don't use as a your main operating system but the tech preview allows you to upgrade from windows 7 and above. I find that a little odd. Technically if you are upgrading to preview you are replacing your operating system and normally not allowed to keep using your old operating system even on another partition especially if it is an OEM.

A lot of people have extra systems with an OS and can use that to test with. My main system has Windows 8.1 and Windows 7 in a dual boot. I have a license for both. I use W8.1 as my main OS and W7 for testing. I tried upgrading W7 to W10 and I didn't like the results so I did a clean install of W10 and now I have W8.1 and W10 in a dual boot. I can go back to W7 when ever I want.

The average user probably only has one system running one OS and MS does not recommend you replacing it with W10.
Just because MS lets you do it, its not a good idea and they advise you not to do it.

If I buy a hammer I can use it to hit myself in the head but not a good idea.
The hammer manufacturer does not restrict me from hitting myself in the head.

Phone Man, I was thinking of upgrading using the consumer preview when it comes out. I would still like to keep windows 7 as well without violating the EULA. I already tried windows 10 preview separate but not as an upgrade. I know how to do partitions really well. However, we got to see if Microsoft keeps it promise to look more like Windows 7.

When did they make that promise?

I for one don't recall hearing that at all. The comment was that it would be a combination of Win7 and Win8.1. They never said that it would be predominantly Win7 style OS.

    Here I found the article.

Windows 10 is the official name for Microsoft's next version of Windows | The Verge

When you put all that together, the end result looks a lot like Windows 7. That's intentional. Microsoft's Joe Belfiore pointed to the millions of customers still using Windows 7, and said the company wants to make their transition to Windows 10 much more comfortable than the unfamiliar leap to Windows 8 two years ago. "We want all these Windows 7 users to have the sentiment that yesterday they were driving a first-generation Prius, and now with Windows 10 it's like a Tesla."

"Windows 10 will deliver the right experience on the right device at the right time," said Microsoft's Terry Myerson. "Windows 10 will run on the broadest types of devices ever." You can expect a unique user interface depending on what you're running Windows on; images shown at the event line up with leaks that have surfaced in recent weeks. It's basically a combination of Windows 7 and 8 that borrows design elements from each of Microsoft's two most recent operating systems.
These were the main reasons I tried Windows 10. I wouldn't even bothered trying windows 10, if they were not going to do what they said they were going to do. I have no idea who Joe & Terry are.

That is nothing more then double talk. . .no where does it say that Windows 10 OS will look just/actually like Windows 7.

It still doesn't say what percentage of Win7 UI would be seen in Win10?? Does it??
No it doesn't. You're just assuming that the new UI would be more like Win7 and it's not stating that anywhere.

What do you think the end means? I am not assuming at all. I am basing it on Microsoft's Joe Belfiore. Most people take these statement literally. I did. I didn't realize Microsoft was political.

A combination to me is 50/50 not 10/50 or 90/10

Again.. what you expect it to look like it not what others expect it to look like.
Win10 is not going to be a Win7 repeat, UI wise. It's a blend of Win8.1 and Win7 so what we have is just that. You use Win7 and want that look so simply stick with Win7.
