    Removed Preview & thanks

I decide go back to windows 7 & Lubuntu for my needs. If Microsoft offers it for free or very low cost I might consider getting Windows 10 or whatever it might called. Posters, thank you for all your help. :)

What where your main reasons for going back?

What do you mean go back? You are not suppose to use it as a replacement OS in the first place. It's a preview. Either you install it on a separate hard drive or run it on VM to mess up with it. If you are having issues with drivers then you might need to get it with a new pc in the future.

I found out I don't boot to windows 10 preview that much. Windows 7 & Lubuntu are the two I use the most and about equal.

Pardon my grammar, this is not meant to be rude. There is also another way to install windows 10, I am pretty smart when it comes to partitioning.

See my hard drive before I removed windows 10 preview.

    Windows 7 Primary partition 1
Windows 10 Preview Primary partition 2
Lubuntu with xfce4 desktop logical partition sda5
    Lubuntu swap partition sda6
Another logical partition to share data sda7

    Now it is

    Windows 7 Primary partition 1
Lubuntu with xfce4 desktop logical partition sda5
    Lubuntu swap partition sda6
Another 45 gb logical partition to share data sda7

I had to create 2 temp primary partitions to force win10 to install on one partition.

The program I used is called mini partition wizard(pw) and it is great. Tip, use pw from Windows 7 or Windows 10 to prevent windows from locking you out. I used the boot disk to resize my windows 7, that was a mistake but I had backup.

Before I installed Lubuntu, I had to use disk management to change back & forth. Using Grub 2 works but you have to remove Grub 2 to install any preview release, it need access to the MBR. I also have a Grub boot disk, so I can reinstall grub 2 from Lubuntu itself.

I don't mean to argue but I am familiar with the partitioning method. I intentionally did not mention it because it is not highly recommended. Even the smartest IT guy will be surprised how messy it can be to dual/triple boot on the same hard drive. The problems are most of the time fixable but a lot of work and that is what I am trying to avoid. I do have a dual boot setup on an SSD right now (cloned Win 7 and Linux Mint) but it's only a test "ground" and not my main OS. I can mess it up any time and just re-clone it again if I break it. As for Win 10, I installed it separately. The last update was really bad that almost every one ended up with a broken Win 10 OS. Good thing I have it separate. I did a clean install from the 9860 ISO that I created. I anticipated all these Win 10 issues because it is just a preview. And that's the only point I am trying to make.

    Cheers!

To run multiple OS on the same PC I recommend WMware Player. I run Windows 7 as the host and 8.1, 10 and four Linux distros in VMware Player. Works great and is extremely easy to manage.

The reason I did it, because I only have one computer that is current and I don't like Virtual Machines (Had issues with Virtual Machines). That why I have dual boot with Lubuntu currently. If it was not for mini partition wizard & Macrium, I would of never tried Windows 10 preview or even installed Lubuntu. Linux systems are technically continuous betas that update frequently, sometimes more than windows. My grammar may not be good but I have been using computers for a 33 years and I even helped the local library with configuration problems when they carried a earlier mac operating system. They even called me at home and we did it over the phone. I will admit that I still don't know everything about computers I keep learning more each day. My first computer not counting a electronic word processor was a Commodore 64 but at that time I wasn't interested in computers until Windows 95 came out, that was an AST computer.

Using dos Pkzip and little ingenuity, I created a unusual way to backup & restore windows 98se. It was more of a pain to do that way, once Norton's ghost came along it was a lot easier. I still use Ghost on my old computer system that can't be upgraded to Windows Vista,7, 8 or 10. I even dual boot with that computer Windows 98se & XP sp3. You would be surprised how small the partition are. Part of the hard drive went bad but I figured a way around that issue.

This post is not meant to be rude in any way.

P.S. Those who read my post before I edited it, I forgot about my old computer. So I corrected this post accordingly.

What are you apologizing about? Your english is better than mine. :)

I am not questioning your skills. Mine is just another reminder how to avoid problems and messing up a fully functional OS. As long as you know what you are doing, that's good enough. :)

    Have a good one!

Thank you :) for your compliment on my English but I am little embarrassed with my grammar because I am an American. I have a disability that takes me longer to learn things with a strange exception of certain electronics. It causes my grammar to be bad sometimes and me to sometimes appear rude when I do not mean to.

I am the type of guy I will try for a week to a month to fix an issue before giving up on it. I have done a little hardware change inside my old computer but my new all in one computer, I am not comfortable with that. I just don't like that part of it. I am more of a configuration guy.

Yes, I have made mistake partitioning, but I learned from them.

P.S. Now if Microsoft said it could destroy your hard drive, then I wouldn't of tested windows 10 preview
