    Camera questions..

I plan on getting a new camera some time next year and I want either the Nikon D3100 or the D3200.
The price for both are just about the same from 42nd Street Photo out of NYC. So it's really down to the D3200.

Does anyone have any other options in the same price bracket.
    400-500 Dollars US.

TIA and any advice is very welcome.
Note: I've had the following cameras in the past:
    Canon AE-1
    Canon EOS Elan
    Nikon D40

do you have any existing lenses? The best advice I can give is that if you are on the fence about which company to choose, choose the one you have existing lenses with, chances are the glass will be interchangeable.

However, based on your choices of the D3100 or the D3200, seems like it's a no brainer and the D3200 should be the one to get, it's got a higher pixel count(24mp), it's got faster fps(4fps), it's got stereo sound for video in 1080p (using external mic), you can also use a WiFi adapter and use a cell phone or tablet to control it.

I currently own a D7000 and 4 lenses for it. I have been very tempted to get the Sony RX-100 or RX-100 II (there's a new version now RX-200 but still expensive) to replace my D7000 but it will be a complete waste of money to have a second camera while my D7000 is still performing well.

RX-100 is still under point and shoot category but it is considered by many as a pro grade camera in terms of it's performance especially in low light.

The Pros: f1.8 aperture, fixed lens but more focal range (28-100mm vs. 18-55mm kit lens of D3200), light weight and has full manual controls like a DSLR.

I like and did use Davids idea.
I picked up a D3000 a few years ago and one of the factors was my Nikon 8008 lenses would work with it although
the auto focus with the 8008 Nikkor lenses would not work in Auto when used with the D3000.
Those Nikkor lenses come at a healthy price why not still be able to use them with all their filters and attachments.
All extra flash attachments also worked on the D3000 from the 8008.
