    The Telephone Company

I am a former AT&T employee and all I can say is that the New AT&T is a real piece of Work. My wife asked me to get a Phone Book for her 87 and 85 year old parents. Well the phone company no longer supplies them. They want you to call 411 for a fee or use the NET. Nether one of them would be able to use the NET. I told my wife that this would not work but she thinks she knows it all. We both have cell phones and I wanted to have our land line parted over to our cell but she still wants a land line so we are paying over $40.00 per month for a service we don't need. But if I spend $20.00 on PC stuff she says it is a waste of money. Just thought I would vent somewhere. We do get these phone books from somewhere but they are all ads and such.

About 7 or 10 years ago, didn't the cell phone company Cingular buy the old AT&T and take its name. So the AT&T of today is not really the AT&T from long ago.

No they bought the cell division which AT&T now owns. Southwestern Bell took control over over what was Ameritech and other Baby Bells. AT&T then in turn bought back all of what they owned prior to Judge Greens ruling back in the 80's. AT&T is now a larger monopoly that it was before Green's ruling.

I just saw this and thought I'd chime in. Where I live, we get 2, yes two, sets of the phone book, delivered in the mail for free. One is called "Das Örtliche"(translated->The Local) and the other is from Müller Verlag(Miller Publishing). From both we get the white and yellow pages. and information wise, there is no real difference, except the ads on the cover, and the larger sized listing from companies and businesses that paid more.

have been an ATT internet customer for awhile now, a little expensive for the speed, might go to Brighthouse, a local provider in Florida.

Yellowpages and yellowbook publish local directories with whitepages, and here Verizon and Centurytell do also. They all seem to showup in the late spring /early summer. Not sure that this helps you at all, but there are phonebooks still printed. At least here in Missouri, where as Mark Twain says is 10 years behind the times.

Not by AT&T and their internet sucks here as it is ADSL and not DSL.

Germany is good for stuff like that. They keep immaculate records.

Of course it's probably easier when Germany is only slightly smaller than Montana, and has only 82 Million people(1/4 the population of the US).

We get phone books delivered here, you get what they call the local one, which covers a certain area of the county and is for residential numbers and then The Yellow Pages book which is the one for businesses.
