I'm old enough to remember hand-cranking the ice cream maker when we could get ice and the butter churn.
I've done this before. Now-a-days they have ice cream makers with motors. Oh, the travesty. Nothing like hand cracking the ice cream maker yourself.

When I was much younger like in the early '50s someone in the family had a big ice cream freezer that was belt-driven from a tractor or a pulley that mounted on a rear wheel on a pickup. We used one of those pulleys to drive a pump jack on a water well to fill tanks for the cows.
