As usual the British want to differ from the rest of the Europe. They think they know better. That's why they drive on the left, have the steering wheel on the right, have the gear lever at the left side, have the pepper in the container with the many holes and the salt in the container with the one hole, have the hot tap on the right and the cold on the left side, have the joystick at the left and the buttons at the right side...

But Canada has the same driving as the USA and Mexico.

Driving on the left is far more logical as most people are right handed.
The tradition arose in the days of horses and highwaymen. People could protect themselves better using sword in right hand.
Similarly gear lever on the left is more logical as you hold the steering wheel with right hand.
Re. salt and pepper pots, we have been doing it that way centuries before those on the other side of the Pond.

People often ask why out (UK) plugs are much bigger. That is because most of our appliances need a separate fuse. Probably not so critical now in more modern housing with proper trip systems but a lot of housing stock still uses fuse wire and many a life had been saved as the appliance fuse fused first. I have no doubt our plugs are much safer.

Yes, but you increase the risk of a child putting his/her tiny finger in and getting a shock. European Schuko plugs are much narrower and the simpler (similar to Italian without the central ground) even narrower and safer. In Greece we have both but newer homes prefer Schuko.

For a long time houses had 2-wire circuitry with screwin fuses in the junction boxes. Standards for the last few decades are for 3-wire circuitry with circuit breakers in the junction box and some will GFCI [Ground Fault Circuit Interruption] breakers, great for working around wet and outside.

Don't be so silly - even a small child cannot get finger in the holes - they are not that big and the live parts are several millimeters deep.
Moreover the plugs and are designed so when you pull them out, you cannot touch live parts - the live electrodes are shielded most of the length and when removed, they are fully airgapped.
I was never comfortable with Danish sockets - many appliances only had 2 pins being the German style where the earth section connected to a protuding earth electrode. Many appliances in Denmark were bought/imported from Germany and would fit the Danish sockets but would not actually be earthed even though they should be.
I made a point of removing German plugs and replacing with proper Danish 3 pin plugs.
