    Good morning / afternoon folks.

In the mid 60's, another day with rain & temps in the low 80's.

The freeway has somewhat more traffic this morning, the holiday rush has started. Later on we're sure to hear a lot of motorcycle clubs coming through. They do that every year, head for the war memorials in Washington DC.

    Afternoon Bree.

    What's your holiday over there?

We get the bike clubs coming through on this holiday & the 4th of July. But I think I notice that's getting less & less every year. Definitely not like it was 20 yrs ago, you would hear the motorcycles coming through starting mid morning into the evening & on Saturday/Sunday as well.

Time goes on & people get older.....

A holiday for Banks. Interesting. BTW, banks here used to be closed for 3 days on a holiday weekend, but years ago they passed some law because of some reason or another so banks are open on Saturdays for a limited time. Some law saying they couldn't be closed for more then 2 days in a row. Used to be they were closed Sat/Sun, but nowadays they are open every Sat for a limited time, usually 9 - 12 in the morns.

Weird that your voting day corresponds with that holiday here.

The thing with the Motorcycle clubs going to the memorials in DC has been a long standing tradition. A lot of Vets were part of those clubs & so they make a trek to the war memorials to honor fallen comrades. But I suppose it's because time has marched on that less & less people in clubs are doing that.

I remember years ago on the Memorial day weekend we would usually wake up to motorcycles passing through on the freeway.

    It's a long-standing traditional name....

In the United Kingdom, the term refers to all public holidays, be they set out in statute, declared by royal proclamation, or held by convention under common law....

The term "bank holiday" refers to the fact that banking institutions typically close for business on such holidays, as they once used to do on certain saint's days.
