If any thread got too long this old forum software that runs this site would slow to a crawl. John would have to manually split off the last few posts of any offending thread to create a new (short) one with the same title and [n] appended. Some bright spark spotted this, and thus the LOTPW game was born.

A year or so back John upgraded to servers to have more memory. The maximum practical length of a thread got substantially longer - and in turn so did the length of a 'completed' LOTPW thread.

This one though is by far the longest yet. Either John has upgraded the servers again, he has forgotten us, or he's teasing us - take your pick
