I started out with Tom Corbett and the Space Cadets and was hooked forever.
You know, I think that series of books hooked me not only on Sci-Fi, but on reading in general. I became an enthusiastic consumer of all the books in the junior section of my local library....

I've also read a lot of fantasy, just about anything with dragons in it....
I was about 14 when I discovered Lord of The Rings on the library shelf. Did you know the 3 books together are longer than War and Peace?

Me too. I think the first one I got into was John Wyndham, the Midwich Cuckoos being my favourite.

I think, for me it was Tom Swift. Sort of like the Hardy Boys but in space.
And Lord of the Rings of course.

It took Tolkien 35 years to write those three books. Now that's quality. ^^

I read all the golden age sci-fi authors as well.

I branched out into Sci-fantasy too. I've gotten rid of all my books except the 5 book series by Joel Rosenberg called The Guardians of the flame.
Got tired of packing and unpacking them with each move.

I guess I have about 100-150 paperbacks. Sci-Fi and Fantasy.

Azimov is by far my favorite. Short story The Holes Around Mars Jerome Bixby. All Summer in a Day Ray Bradbury. I also used to read a series called Fafhrd and the Gray Mouser Fritz Leiber. All I read as a kid was SciFi

I remember in the mid 70's one of the teachers was a sci fi fan, one of the books we were required to read & do a report on was City by Clifford D. Simak.

Eight short stories linked by a robot that saw several generations of people he was a servant of.

Also, a hermit in the woods noticed that ants lost everything they worked for every winter & built glass cases around the anthills to protect them. The ants eventually evolved in technology in each story, to the point that by the final story they were sending robotic spies to study humans.

Long ago I read a short story. I don't remember the title, but it was about and inventor working in a shed in the back yard. His dog was there as well.

He finally succeeded in inventing a perfect, infallible IQ testing machine.
Just to see what would happen, he tried it on the dog.
The dog's IQ reading shot past 300... the dog stood up, killed the inventor, walked over and opened the door.

The dog then dropped to all fours and walked away.

    The End.
