Gentlemen it is footy. I don't watch either but I like the high light shows.
My first experience setting up an 11 machine. Different. Better?
Congratulations Ken, welcome to the '11' experience

I've been running 11 on at least one machine since June 2021, a test migration of my (then) 'main machine' (System One below) with all its installed Win10/apps/files to a new supported laptop. There it got upgraded to the Insider release of W11. Come the official October release I transferred the W10 image again and it was offered the W11 upgrade on 20th October 2021. I've been using that as my 'main machine' ever since.

There's not really a lot of difference at the kernel level, basically 10/11 share the same kernel. Most of the differences between 10 and 11 are at the security level and the GUI level. For security there's little that's really new (Core isolation/Memory Integrity was already in 10 long before 11 came out) but in 11 everything is enabled by default whereas in 10 most of it is disabled by default.

The GUI is the biggest change, there's a lot to get used to. Some things that used to take a single click can now take two. But the Settings app IMHO is much improved and seems quite logically laid out now. There were some things like Groups on Start and click-and-drag to the taskbar that didn't make it into the 21H2 release. 22H2 added those back in, so is worth getting.

On the whole, I now prefer 11 to 10, but I still work with both as some of my machines are not supported devices for 11.

    Windows 10 Pro x64 Version 21H1

Afternoon Charlie. That is a lot of rain.

Yes Bree when they first offered eleven I installed it on my insider machine. Been there ever since. Not eligible for updates.

This was the first with the OOBE. Don't understand why they removed explorer ribbon and then prevented the Reg file from restoring. Getting really authoritarian.

The machine I was working on had a folder with info the previous guy could restore after a virus attack. All sorts of files damaged. Thousands of pictures gone. ( a 32GB USB key copy would have been all they needed. All I can do is recommend)

The machine I was setting up was an i5-12400 with 12GB and 512 SSD. The old machine was a dual processor, 2GB memory with a spinner. You want to experience slow, oh my heavens.

    Time for an adult beverage.

    Been there, done that

None of my machines have less than 4GB installed RAM now (well, strictly speaking my little old Atom powered netbook does have a 4GB RAM stick, but its poor old Atom can only address 2.99GB of it). Most now have SSDs too.

I do have an old laptop with a single core/single thread AMD V120 running Win7 and Office 2003 on a 'spinner'. I still use it for keeping my accounts on (never goes on the internet, of course).

It used to have just 2GB RAM. I once tried Windows 10 on it - have you ever tried swimming in treacle?

It now has a 2nd 2GB RAM, the one I 'liberated' from my old netbook - virtually sings now
