Online QR Code Generators : Safe useful tools or fancy data mining?

    Hello all,

I am not sure where to post this question online, I thought I would try here. Slightly off topic, I hope you don't mind.

I have been asked to setup a load of business cards with QR codes. I feel it better to not use an online creation tool because they are probably just data mining with benefits.

    Am I being overly suspicious?

    Thanks

    Sean

I think so, but this is the internet, anything is possible.

I want to think you're (a bit) overly suspicious since I use an online QR code generator for various purposes without even thinking about data mining, otherwise that would make me overly naive...

I feel the same way about online photo editors.

    Thanks @jupiterroll and @Anak.

I used an online generator in the end, turns out the info was already on their company site, it's out there anyway. I'll checkout that link for future. Cheers

Just checked, the ones that run in browsers, yeah, they're definitely offline, lol.

I use one to generate, then add a couple of characters “poisoning” the algorithm.

I get your point b/c of the permissions needed when installed I don't like it either it seems you can avoid some of the process but you can't avoid all of it

I did find that if you use MS word you can d/l an add-in for word. I use libre office and that has a gen already built-in but in both cases they're not dynamic, just a link.
IIRC; Android v11 has the qr gen built-in to the camera app, unfortunately on my phone it's v10 and I have to go thru google lens to complete the link, so that kinda defeats the purpose.

The qrc that I made with libre writer took me right to the above quote location and I imagine it used the preloaded chrome b/c I haven't changed the default browser.

I wanted to show you but it's lost a lot in the transfer from image in writer to attaching it here:

Then I tried blowin' it up, that just made it blurrier,

You can try scannin' 'em, I didn't have any luck.
