    Glasses for computer work

Hi all, do you use glasses for computer work? I would be interested to hear from those who use them, do they really help protect your eyes from the screen?

Can't say I have any experience with them, but I know there are some available. But I have seen some monitors have a function built in that reduce the amount of eyestrain. On mine it's called "Eye saver mode." Might want to check to see if your monitor has a setting like that.

IF you wear glasses already, they can make them into bifocals.
One focus for monitors and another for everything else. I wear glasses like that.

They offered me trifocals for reading/monitor/all else... but I don't need glasses for reading.

If you do decide on bifocals, ask about no-line bifocals. They cost a bit more, but they "look" like single lens glasses.
Generally with bi or tri focals, the various focal lengths are horizontal.
Like the top part for driving, etc., the middle for computer screens and the bottom for reading.

    No-line or Progressive lenses...

I had to go to Tri-Focals when I was working with microfiche, paper documents and computer work all at the same time.

It is simple - wear them if you need them. Do not wear them if you do not need them.

Your optician should test you for near, far and intermediate vision.

I used to be very short sighted (-7/8) and needed glasses for all but reading in bed (focal length around 0.15m).

I then had both my eye lenses changed due to cataracts and I am around -2 now. Unfourtunately, it was impossible to completely sort my eyesight over full near to distance, so I elected to be slightly shortsighted which meant I could read my pc without glasses, and generally not need them in the house.

I do need them for clear distance viewing but would not be majorly handicapped if I lost my glasses.

Wearing glasses not suitable for the focal length of a pc (typically 1m or so) will strain your eyes worse if you do not need them.

In simple terms follow opticians advice.

Regarding multifocal lenses, imo a frankly it is better to just have a pair of correctly focussed lenses for pc reading, as you are not changing focal lengths all the time.

Otherwise you will have limited head movement at pc which is probably more tiring.

Just have the cheapest pair you can buy and leave by pc. Then use your expensive multi focussed lenses for general use.

That is what I did before I had cataract ops.
