We have DSL, 12 - 15 Mbps & that's apparently preferred around here. One of my Wife's workers told her a few years back there's actually a waiting list for that & if you decide to try something else for a while, then want to go back, you'll be on that waiting list. Think she said then it was a year or more.
Our other options are cable or dish. And from what I've heard, the cable slows to a crawl at certain times. And the dish has connectivity problems when there's bad weather.
I have DSL also 45 -55 Mbps I think fiber is fixing to come here also but by the same company my only other choice is cable or dish and if it is anything like dish tv yes bad weather knocks it out.

Yes Borg. The big ISP / Providers are really putting it to the customers. Every year our costs go up and they expect you to fight for the discount. Mine was schedule to go up $50 a month. I phoned multiple times and finally they agreed no price increase.
My neighbour who doesn't shop around much is paying $125 a month. She could easily get the same service for less than $80
To keep me happy the telco keeps adding data to our cell plans. Does nothing for me. We use less than 1 GB a month so giving me 30GB allows them to say look what we did but it provides no value to me.
I am the same way only use cell data when I do not have WiFi and that is very seldom.

Yeah, our phone bill in general went up recently due to "increase in costs of items." Not too bad though, went up $10. Our ISP plan has unlimited bandwidth (for now) & the entire bill for phone & ISP is $82 monthly.
Like you said, they are the only cable place in town & they like to stick it to people just because they can. You don't have much choice, you can't get anything over a TV antennae like you can in big cities.
Our cable company even added a charge for if you get a bill in the mail ($1). That's right, if you want a physical bill to show up in your mail box you'll be paying an extra $1 every month for that privilege.
