Morning Borg. Yes fibre will be nice as I will finally have competition. My coax is fibre to the node, then coax to the house. It works great, over 700Mb to my house and around 18Mb up.

Afternoon Bree. You guys are getting baked.
We have DSL, 12 - 15 Mbps & that's apparently preferred around here. One of my Wife's workers told her a few years back there's actually a waiting list for that & if you decide to try something else for a while, then want to go back, you'll be on that waiting list. Think she said then it was a year or more.

Our other options are cable or dish. And from what I've heard, the cable slows to a crawl at certain times. And the dish has connectivity problems when there's bad weather.

Three weeks ago we got some kind of catalog with Halloween themes on the front cover.

Went to a store yesterday & they already have Halloween displays set up.

Haven't been near Wally world in ages, but somehow I would think any other place would be running behind compared to them. I'm willing to bet they already have a Christmas display up.

    Morning Charlie.

I think coax use to slow down Borg but that is really in under developed areas. I've seen no evidence of that in at least 10 years but that said the cable company has been investing pretty heavily.

Fibre is pretty much available any where in Toronto so if the cable slowed down they would lose business. As well they have moved TV to IPTV. There would be outrage if picture deteriorated especially with these high res tv's

Does the cable in your area support IPTV?

Not sure, never did much investigating into the cable. When we were picking out an ISP years ago & DSL was available, we opted for that. I do hear people complain that at certain times considered "busy hours" the cable is slow & a mess. So we went with DSL & never looked back.

Not many problems so the speak except for that debacle a month ago, but the tech told me one of the lines was broken for someone else in the area & that was more then likely the cause of our issues (repeated disconnects.) So far so good (knock on wood)

The DSL service does also offer TV services with a bunch of channels, but we have basic cable for that, about 15 - 20 channels & my Wife watches a few things on it in the morns & weekends, but that's about it.

Speaking of, being the only cable provider in the area for miles around, they charge a good amount of $$$$$. Our basic costs $64 a month, next step up is expanded basic & that'll run you $125. And it only goes way up from there....

Yes Borg. The big ISP / Providers are really putting it to the customers. Every year our costs go up and they expect you to fight for the discount. Mine was schedule to go up $50 a month. I phoned multiple times and finally they agreed no price increase.

My neighbour who doesn't shop around much is paying $125 a month. She could easily get the same service for less than $80

To keep me happy the telco keeps adding data to our cell plans. Does nothing for me. We use less than 1 GB a month so giving me 30GB allows them to say look what we did but it provides no value to me.
