    Well I don't think it's for the better. Look at Labor day, originally created so the average Joe could get a break from working. Nowadays, everything is open on that day also.

    The only day the larger stores have to stay closed in England is Easter Sunday. Some even opened on Xmas day a few years back, but there was such a fuss that they have not done it since.
