None of my laptops were up to W11 requirements, so I bought two more that are, both second hand.

I had only planned to get one, easily justified as a replacement for my System One. That's a decade old now (and showing its age). Chances are I would have had to replace it soon anyway.

But then an opportunity came up that was too good to pass up
Was offered Win 11 on may laptop.. passing for now

I'm waiting to see what the Black Friday week brings. Who knows, they keep making the sale event longer, Samsung is already yapping about sales.

It will be months before my daily goes Win 11. February, in the dead of winter, sounds like a nice target.

I went actively searching for a W11 capable machine back in June. By the end of July I had found one at a reasonable price. As soon as the first official Insider release was available from UUPDump I tested my planned transfer of the OS and all my apps and files from my old machine to its new home and upgraded it to W11 22000.51. I then used that as my main machine for the next two months, doing all the things and using all the apps I would normally use. By the end I was confident that 11 was stable and would do everything I wanted of it.

At the end of September I repeated the transfer of System One to it's new home and officially made the new PC my 'main machine'. I then had to wait 15 days before Windows Update offered the upgrade to 11 - longest fortnight of my life

I don't even need to transfer anything. I'm using Win 11 Dev build on one partition, and Win 10 on the other. This is my main desktop system. I have another older one for Win 10 RP Insider, and laptop with Win 10. Laptop is capable of Win 11, but..

Have to admit, for the first time of Windows new builds, numbers etc, I'm not really tempted to upgrade. Windows 11 is the same as 8. And Updated to 8 immediately. That's the time I've learned about Open Shell Windows 8.1 became tolerable, and 10 is really nice.

I don't get why MS made this Start menu! Windows 8.1 at least had a strategy.. MS wanted to made Start menu similar on their phone, and it was a good phone!

But this! you have a small portion of desktop to pick the icon of your favorite apps from... Straight to a list with most used at the top - this is what I get with my tweaks. And Taskbar - Icons ar too close to each other, and the mark for active apps is tiny, tiny line

    I'll pass

I'm keeping all my unsupported machines on W10 for the foreseeable future. But I'm finding it painful to go back to the incoherent mess that is the Settings app in W10 after see just how usable and well laid out it is in W11. Hopefully it can be ported to W10 in some later build.

Well good night all, it's time I was off to bed.

Thursday I'll be out for the day enjoying the Autumn colours of the trees with my daughter. Then staying over for the night.

Lucky I've got a laptop I can take with me then, else I wouldn't be able to keep in touch with you all
