    I suppose it's lucky that I prefer the taskbar at the bottom anyway, like it was in XP, and W7....

    I like my task bar on the side does not take up vertical space which is limited and too small.

    Tried it that way for a while on W7 but was never really happy with it. You can set the taskbar to auto-hide if you need the space.
