The Snake by Al Wilson
The best recording of this I think was by Cynthia Geary on the TV show, Northern Exposure. But I can't find a clear copy of that.
The next best, that I can find is this one. This song just sounds better sung by a woman...
LYRICS...
On her way to work one morning
Down the path alongside the lake
A tender-hearted woman found a poor half-frozen snake
His pretty colored skin had been all frosted with the dew
"Poor thing, " she cried, "I'll take you in and I'll take care of you"
"Take me in, tender woman
Take me in, for heaven's sake
Take me in, tender woman, " sighed the snake
She wrapped him up all cozy in a comforter of silk
And laid him by the fire with some honey and some milk
She hurried home from work that night, and as soon she arrived
She found that pretty snake she'd taken in had been revived
"Take me in, tender woman
Take me in, for heaven's sake
Take me in, tender woman, " sighed the snake
She clutched him to her bosom, "You're so beautiful, " she cried
"But if I hadn't brought you in by now you might have died"
She stroked his pretty skin again and kissed and held him tight
Instead of saying thanks, that snake gave her a vicious bite
"Take me in, tender woman
Take me in, for heaven's sake
Take me in, tender woman, " sighed the snake
"I saved you, " cried that woman
"And you've bitten me, but why?
You know your bite is poisonous and now I'm gonna die"
"Oh, shut up, silly woman, " said the reptile with a grin
"You knew darn well I was a snake before you took me in"
"Take me in, tender woman
Take me in, for heaven's sake
Take me in, tender woman, " sighed the snake
Take me in, tender woman, " sighed the snake
Take me in, tender woman, " sighed the snake

It's not that... it's that it's much better when she's in... focus.
Her face/lips etc., make the song in the TV show.
Btw, it's season 4, episode 25.
Here we go... the song starts at 15:13
Northern Exposure S04E25 Old Tree
I think the part I like so much is that Cynthia Geary, really has a killer set of pipes.
I get the impression the director was telling her to hold back. But once or twice, she really lets go, and you can hear those lungs. ^^
