    I received an I phone from a friend when I download an app on my phone it appears on his iPhone also
    how do i stop that

    Probably because it is logged on and registered using his name and password, You will have to change the user to your name.

    I don't own an iPhone so I have no idea how to do this

    It appears as though Digital Life is correct. As far as Apple is concerned it is still your friend's iPhone. It may be easier for your friend to remove your phone from his account and you set up your own account. I doubt Apple will let you just remove it on your own very easily.

    Go to settings, then the very first thing at the top of the page is the user account, click that then scroll down to the bottom of the next page and sign out.

    I would not do this, There is a good chance he may brick the phone.
    Best bet is to get together with his friend and go a site dedicated to iPhones and find the proper way to transfer the phones ownership to his name.
