Well, my current lappy seems to meet the requirements, my old one, if it hasn't fallen apart by then, it will be 15yo, I'll load Linux on it.

I'm pleased one of them is good to go for you, Keith. 
I'm thinking the same, about Linux for this one, if it makes it that long. I know zero about Linux, but am more than willing to give it a go.

Linux Mint is fairly close to Windows in the way it looks.

Yes, I have read a good deal about Mint. From all accounts, it is easier to learn/work with, than most Distros.
