    I bought a well used 1971 Mustang and on way home got accelerator stuck at full throttle, Barely managed to stop it in time at red light and into bunch of cars by turning ignition off. There's no way stopping a 300HP V8 at full throttle using only brakes. When I looked under the air filter, 4bbl carburetor was all in shambles and with wires holding levers. Luckily I had a brand new Holly 700 4bbl carb and replaced it.
    Yeah, at least with a stick shift you can hit the clutch and knock it out of gear.

    Not quite the same thing but with my first car I had complete hydraulic brake failure approaching a red traffic light. Managed, just, to stop it using the hand break and engine breaking but it was scary.
