They had those at a lot of stores here during that time, along with the tubes stocked in the drawers. When your TV went on the fritz, you opened the back, pulled out a few tubes, took them to the store & if one was bad, you got a new one. That usually fixed the TV, not always, but mostly.

Sounds a very good idea. Think I've still got an old vacuum tube radio in the attic.
