Just got it all back up and running. I'm liking how it turned out. That monitor is at a nice viewing height and angle. What a PITA it was to get it level.

We also have a TV in our Bedroom. Eastlink Cable Box and my XBOX connected to it. I can do Internet on the XBOX. I watch YouTube on it mostly. The XBOX controller is great for that, the viewing part. The onboard keyboard sucks though if i want to try an type a post on a forum.

Huck a Pi 4 up to that TV and you can do internet over WIFI. Just use one of those mini track pad cordless keyboards.

    Gaaaaaaahhhhhhh!

I finally had to turn my screen upside down, which is unfortunate as the power connector is now on the bottom of the screen. I had to get a right angle adapter for it. I could not get the screen to invert no matter what I did. I did get it to flip on the desktop, but I am using the CLI and it won't budge for nuthin'. Grrrr. What genius designed this, when probably 80 to 90% of screen holders/mounts have the screen upside down?

Some good news: I have been able to get the PC application to read and spit out all of the sensors. Now I just have to work on encoding them into the Pi. It shouldn't be that hard as it is just packing an array and then feeding it out to the Pi over the serial lines. Then comes the heavy lifting => The graphics and code for the Pi's screen. There is formatting and decoding of the pages and then a feed to the display. Time to sharpen up my Python skills. This won't be easy, but I am rather dedicated about this. I like PC status displays. I used to use LCDSmartie and a 4 x 40 LCD display. Unfortunately, LCDSmartie seems to have died on the vine, and it was notoriously unreliable on Windows 10 and 11. It hasn't been updated in several years and the source code isn't available. Sad really.

Now to spend my afternoon fiddling about before I go out tonight. I'll have something to bore my friends with.

@Catnip. If it's not connected to a Pi 5, just go back to the Legacy OS. You only need Pi OS Desktop 12 (Bookworm) if it's a Pi 5.
I've gone back on my Pi 400 to avoid having to use the new virtual install stuff.

I can remeber a day when the boot screen was one way and the Desktop another. For me anyway, the way I had mine orientated, its what I ended up with. It bugged me enough that I eventually physically rotated my screen 180. That was a PITA as I was using a 40 pin GPIO cable on the GPIO header.

I've done a tone of graphics stuff Pico wise on SPI connected screens. The limiting factors here are the small screen size, and small amount or memory (screen buffer) you have available to drive them. On the plus side displaying text etc is easy peasy for me now, if I'm using Pico Graphics.

It's a bit better on the Pi, SPI screen wise. It's a lot easier to use multiple screens, and its Python versus Micro Python.

I have never attempted to do my own custom display GUI on HDMI or the DSI touch screen. Just thinking about it, reading about it made my head hurt.

If I was going to try it now I'd probably try the new Pico Vision DV Stick.

I was thinking of reverting back to the previous OS, but I want to use Bookworm for the new graphics libraries that it includes. It looks promising and I don't want to have to re-code the Pi after they make more changes or Bullseye gets deprecated.

But you do have a point. I guess it depends on whether or not I can design a new screen enclosure for my 3D printer. Oh boy is that hard! I am useless with CAD programs. Maybe I can put up with the weird screen mount and not bother, but it will be the last thing I do for this thing.
