After over 40 years, the local cable company finally priced themselves out of our budget. I bought our own modem/gateway/router, four 4k Firesticks and returned the rented modem, HD converter, and five data terminal adapters. We kept our VOIP land line, and upped the internet data to unlimited (the speed was already 100 mbps). I spent most of the day installing and configuring the new hardware. The monthly entertainment cost has dropped from $261.00 to $185.00 which includes streaming TV services. It may not seem like a big savings, but we have far more channels than before and the new router is delivering faster and stronger bandwidth to all of our devices. We also now have TV on the PC and the iPad. The two TVs in the grandkids bedrooms will be OTA now, but since the kids don't stay with us now that they grown, that won't be an issue. They both watch TV on their cell phones through their cellular provider anyway. Might even add TV to the the tablet in the workshop now that the WiFi signal is strong enough to reach there.
