I disagree. The answer is ten. Working out the formula mentally you always apply BODMAS so it's 2x4+2. What the calculator operator is typing in is actually (2+2)4.
I disagree. BODMAS is actually little known by most people and it is purely
convention.
Most people will use left to right (algebraic) rather than operator precedence.
As I said, enter 2+2*4 on virtually all calculators and it will return 16. On you basis, that makes virtually all calculators wrong which is nonsense!
The fault lies with person framing equation ambiguously i.e. in an order with where algebraic would give different answer
2X4 + 2
or not putting brackets
2 + (2x4).
So you can disagree all you like but you are incorrect. It is purely an interpretation issue. It is up to person framing equation to avoid ambiguity.

Moved off the farm before starting my freshman year, failed first semester of Algrebra, never went back to it in the next 4 schools. Still working on a degree at SHK.
