You've touch on a major problem in aviation and maritime, had to use GMT/UTC time in communications to eliminate the who's time, yours or mine issue, need a common reference. Had to use it for over 30 years.

Maritime was also the driver for more and more accurate time pieces to aid in determining longitude.
