Good bye google and thank you for your services!

I would like to thank google company for their services, especially for:

    1. fast and unmatched search engine
    2. huge database of youtube videos
    3. featureful gmail
    4. fast DNS servers located all around the world
    5. high quality translator
    6. featureful and high performance Chrome browser

Times are changing however and the google monopoly is slowly going down the road.

Some 5 or more years ago I stopped using gmail
in favor or other email providers (ex. protonmail.ch) who (unlike google) value my privacy.

Recently I stopped using google search engine in favor of Microsoft bing,
this change was not easy to accept because bing was never a good search engine,
the results bing gave me were mostly disappointment (similar for all other search engines)

However bing has improved a lot, the speed of search queries is today almost as fast as google,
The results are not as good as those from google but the improvements MS has done over recent
years are good enough to accept the change.

If I have to put this into percentages, Microsoft bing is on 75% progress bar to catch up with google searches.

Youtube is unmatched in terms of content, but that changed too, I no longer need to visit youtube and
accept their stupid privacy policy every few days, and no longer I need to unpause videos every now and then
just to confirm I'm still a live and not dead.

Today I tried bing videos and discovered it offers to watch youtube videos without the need to unpause or accept anything, so far good!

I also stopped using Chrome browser since the release of MS Edge Chromium, Microsoft always sucked in regard
to web browser, first IE, then store app Edge, both of which are general failure.

MS Edge Chromium is different, and the google chrome browser has very little to no advantage over it, so
I got rid of chrome and it feels good.

I haven't yet changed DNS server because didn't investigate what worthwhile alternatives there may be,
but this is going to change very soon too, and google DNS is going to join the rest of no longer desired services.

The only thing I can't really get rid of is google translator, since English isn't my primary language I use translator
a lot, it's not really about translating words but more about spell checking them because my grammar and writing sucks.

Bing translator is horrible at this moment compared to google translator, especially to:
    1. offer to spell check words with a clickable link to do so
    2. offer a list of similar words
    3. display wider meaning of the word like in google translator.

Maybe I have to enable some things to make bing translator suck less, if you know how please let me know!

So to summarize, getting rid of google is not easy due to their monopoly over exceptional quality, but I don't want to be part of their data mining algorithms any more.

Their offer to accept privacy policy every few days and to confirm I'm a live and didn't die while watching videos has only accelerated my frustration and resulted in google damaging their own company instead of earning my trust.

I don't think google is going to be able to restore my trust toward them (that they damaged) anytime in the future,
especially since my trust toward Microsoft has increased a lot in recent years.

I used to dislike Microsoft even more than what I dislike google right now, the difference is that Microsoft is doing something to improve their conditions and services, while google instead of fixing their issues only introduces new ones which just reduces my trust even more, this change in trust is not over night, it's accumulating over 15 years so I'm NOT a troll here!

Thank you google, your services suited my needs over the years, but things changed and you are now officially FIRED!

If you are looking for an alternative to google's 8.8.8.8 DNS I would suggest you take a look at Cloudflare's 1.1.1.1

    Hi @Barman58

    Thank you for suggestion!

I've took a read on your link and cloudflare DNS looks like good alternative indeed.

I use SimpleDNSCrypt to encrypt traffic to google DNS servers.

I've configured SimpleDNSCrypt to connect to cloudflare's DOH service instead of google DNS:

Now the only thing left is worthwhile alternative for "google translate" and youtube.
Maybe not so fast but in the next 15 or so years there might be more options for us mortals
