Yes, those days are gone.
The mighty dollar has taken control.
Unfortunately, you are right .
It's sad that the days designated to give people a break from working are no longer honored by companies. Even Labor Day, the holiday to give the working class person a day off, is just like any other day.
All hail the mighty dollar .
Do retail stores stay open up there also or do most of them close?
Morning Charlie.
It is a mix Borg on the stores.
What is really funny / sad. Some stores open knowing they will be fined but business is so good it is worth it.
I guess we could ask is it the stores fault or ours. If people didn't shop then the stores would close. Our smaller / fancier grocery store gets fined like $3500 on these holidays and says he just doesn't care. The parking lot is packed and the cash registers are ringing.
That's surprising to hear, some places get fined if they stay open. But yeah, if the fine is less then the profit they turn, of course they'll go for that option.
People used to have to plan ahead for things, like making sure you had enough groceries/what not for a holiday, knowing full well everything would be closed. Nowadays no one does that, they just expect things will be open & treat it like a regular day.
Yes a boiler failure in winter ain't no fun.
We are about to start a wicked hot spell, one they tell us we haven't seen since 1953. I use to get my AC serviced but after being told by two techs I was wasting my money I stopped. They both pointed out that every time they hook up to check check gas levels I lose some coolant gas. They both said when it stops working call and we will fix. We shall see.
There is no winning in retail. If they are closed then people head to Amazon. Margins are tight and competition is cut throat.
