Morning Borg
Yes just like July 4th, everything is closed. They were practicing fireworks again last night until 11:30.
Going to be a long night tonight.
Morning Mike
Afternoon Keith. See you got your boiler serviced. Nice when you get a clean bill of health.
Morning OM & Sammy.
Just hot & muggy here with temps into the mid to upper 80's
Afternoon kado.
Kinda figured being a national holiday, just wondering. Same thing with the fireworks here, people setting them off until late night.
Since the 4th falls on a Sat, some places will be taking the holiday on Friday, meaning some folks will be getting a 3 day weekend. Mostly just Govt & state offices though, none of the retail stores close up anymore on a holiday.
Yes Mike same as my furnace. I have it serviced to keep warranty in effect.
Interest Borg. I've been in the US on several July 4th. When I was young I use to holiday in Mike's state. Back then as I recall things were pretty much shut down. Now that was quite a while ago, to many years to count.
Most festivals have been cancelled here due to the virus. Might actually wind up saving some lives and there will be a lot less drinking and driving.
Yeah, you're right on that Ken. Many years back they would shut just about everything down.
When I was growing up, any national holiday, everything was closed. No open markets, nothing, everyone was home. Gas stations had to stay open for a certain amount of hours, 4 I think, but they closed by noon. If you needed something from the market, you were SOL.
Banks didn't have the limit on days they could stay closed so they would be closed for 3, sometimes 4 days.
I remember a couple times having to run to a friend or neighbor to borrow something my Mom needed to make a holiday dish. Lots of people in the yards having BBQ's & get togethers. It's sad it's not like that anymore.
