Yep, when we lived in SoCali, they were illegal, but there were people that could get them for you...for a huge amount of money compared to what they cost in states where they are legal. Our friend had one & when they told us what they paid we were shocked.
Strangely, my 18 FT Burmese Python was legal...but not ferrets. Oh yeah, & Camel Spiders...they were sold in reptile shops...
As most of the folks here know, I've owned and loved ferrets. The reason I no longer have them is that their life span is so short (5 to 6 years) and they tend to worm their way into my heart so deeply that when they die, it's almost as hard as losing a human loved one.
Domesticated ferrets can survive in the wild only if conditions are right. Maybe the mid-western states. Mostly in zones that hardly ever freeze. I think.
Black Footed Ferrets are native to California and mid-western states and are almost extinct. It's illegal to own Black Footed Ferrets due to the fact that they're endangered.
What Is The Difference Between Wild Ferrets and Domesticated Ferrets?
