Congratuations Matthew!...... And you are so correct, how else do we learn?

As a mentor once reminded me, 'You can't learn AND look good at the same time'.

Being stupid is a very humbling experience, which technology, computers in particular, have a very long history of providing us with. ;o)

The first thing I was taught when studying Computer Science:
"Computers are the dumbest things. They do exactly what you tell them to do. Not what you want or have in mind to tell them."

So how can some people expect to not be asked questions, even dumb ones, when someone addresses issues about the dumbest things?

Philosophical questions, not applicable to our great forum!!!!

I like this answer to your post Matthew, as the others have told you the help here is given freely and with an understanding of a person's level of computer experience.

We all have to start somewhere when it comes to understanding these complex machines we love to hate, no-one can know everything and we only learn by asking questions, so you keep asking those questions, you will not be made to feel stupid.

The major difference I notice between our Forums and others on the internet is that members here try their best to match the answers given to the perceivable knowledge level of the member asking the question, this is not found in many places.

We do not always get the required level correct first time, but will still take time to talk to the questioner, and explain at a more appropriate level, especially as the user may may well be in a state of terror not understanding what has gone Wrong with their expensive piece of tech.

So many New users here will give the reason for choosing us is that they found the answers were understandable to them whereas other options (microsoft ) were either rude or too technical for them.

The reason for this is down to one thing ..., the members here care about the help they give, for which we thank you all for

    Congratulations Matthew.

I have always been told the only stupid question is the one you don't ask!

Actually, "stupid questions" are not the words used there.

"If a user cannot demonstrate, after asking a reasonable number of questions, that their contributions are making the site better (or at very least, not making it worse) then they will be blocked from asking further questions until they have demonstrated their ability to contribute positively."—quoted from:
Why are questions no longer being accepted from my account? - Help Center - Stack Overflow

Does it suggest that my questions have made the site worse?

Sounds rather elitist...not the type of people I'd like to hang out with. Every day is a learning experience...
