I've been in Joburg in 2006 when I was working for Vale. I stayed for six months in Sandton, near Mandela Square. Good times !
As we were heading to Johannesburg, So Africa at the end of our tour we stopped for dinner. We ate at a restaurant called The Carnivore in Nairobi I think. When you walked in you saw an open roasting pit with whole shanks of exotic meat. You were served by men carrying a shank, I guess you would call it on a very large skewer. If you wanted antelope, you just nodded and he put the end of the skewer on your plate and shaved meat off until you said stop. Then another one would come around with another type of meat. It was a very interesting place to eat. We had bread and meat. I needed something to drink but all I had was a $20. bill. Most every place took US money but had no change, so the coke would have cost me $20. A travel companion bought one for me. When everyone had enough, you were suppose to stand up a white flag that was on your table. One of our travel mates was a politician and she made us keep eating so our flag would be the last one. In other words the last to surrender.
That was in 1996 and as I type this it is hard for me to believe this poor little Okie girl ended up in Africa, not once by twice. Sorry, I am rambling.
