    Afternoon Andre

    You can and you can't.

Siri works well but you have to be prepared. Dictation allows you to pause and Siri thinks you are finished. Yes you can add but she is constantly jumping in. Long emails can be trying and there really is no facility to edit some words. At least I haven't figure out. For both Siri and dictation you need a very clear voice.

On the MAC I also enable VoiceOver so she can mouse over paragraph and have it read to her.

I use Siri for emails and text messages. Usually short, one or two sentences. My voice is really clear and it can take two attempts, in the car, three.

Sure and lets make some notes.

Today it is email and this person wants to use dictation on a MAC. That means you have to remember very specific commands, most common ones I've written down. Try doing that with a person with no short term memory.

Computing for the disabled has a long way to go.
I tell my students that instructions for using a Mac are beyond the scope of this class. Which means that Macs hate me! They're too expensive, and most of my students can't afford one anyway.

One lady who eats lunch with us every so often wanted to join the class, but she has a Mac. I told her I know nothing about Macs and I couldn't teach her. She had a couple or three things she was interested in, including a PC. However, in the end, the PC lost because she could only afford one thing.

A very hot UK and envious of US air conditioning, wives who mow lawns and cool basements but happy about a newly developed MS flight simulator next year. I’ll hold off on that new PC until I know more. Meanwhile, more humid hot sleepless nights

Life has a way of getting in the way at times; for me as well as my students. I thought when I retired I'd have time to do the things I want to. Nope! Life is just one of those things we have to live with. Beats the alternative!

One thing I do to get around a lack of practice or study is to have the lesson more than once. As soon as I can work up a simple tutorial on files and folders, we'll have that lesson again. And if necessary, we'll have it again until they get it. Seniors aren't dumb or stupid; it's just a little harder for us to learn.

I mentioned Macrium and now they're gung ho to learn how to do that! I barely know how to use it myself! So, I'm starting off with System Restore. Shawn has written a great tutorial, but from where I sit, it's just not simple enough. So, I have to write one that gives more explanation and more snippets. I think it's ready for tomorrow's class.

Tutorials at TF are great, but for the most part, as I said, just not simple enough for beginners. Ya gotta draw pictures and repeat, repeat, repeat!

Agree with the repeat and I really shouldn't complain as some of these lessons are Private, $$, but still if you want to learn you have to do the work.

You practice driving a car when you start, you practice learning an instrument, you practice any skill.

Oh well, these lessons are going to pay for a new video card so I best keep quiet.

    Afternoon Doc.

Many years ago my wife told me if I didn't complete the AC install she would take the cats and leave me. I had it done in no time.

Well I have to go... wish me well... I asked my wife to have drinks ready for me when I get home.
