Didn't know it would go so far. In mid '80s there was a semi serious drive to introduce "Computer driving license" in Canada suggesting that one could buy a computer only after obtaining such license. People were buying PCs without even knowing how to turn them on. Stores used to introduce short courses for users and buyers just so people wouldn't keep on returning them as "Not working", because they didn't know how to run them and IT pros were charging $100/hour to come and "activate" it.
Us, "Timex Sinclair ZX81 veterans" were pretty busy helping friends and family.
Sometime during Windows introduction there were beautiful young ladies coming to computer stores offering 4 page true/false tests to visitors/customers and after passing such test you'd get a "Microsoft professional" certificate which allowed you to get DOS and Windows beta builds.
I had couple of friends that run computer stores so I was getting beta and even alpha SW anyway but it was cute to hang such a diploma on the office wall along with other diplomas pertain to my job(s).
