It's can't actually overheat, but it will throttle back the CPU clock speed to keep the temperature at or below the 80c max. If that happens its going to hurt performance. You might be able to get a Fan Shim in there. It's only going to work if you cut a hole or some holes in the top though. Or leave the top off?
Those new cases are only two piece aren't they? Not the 5 piece ones with the separate sides and double top covers.

So the place I ordered my Pi 400 finally decided to send me a prepaid shipping label for me to send it back. They say they will give me either a new unit or a refund, my choice.

They did go back and forth over a week asking me if I tried this or that. Problem is, I answered all their questions in my initial message to them, all they needed to do was actually read it and they wouldn't have needed to ask so many questions. Don't you hate that?

My "free" replacement Pi400 arrived late last night. I ended up paying about 40 CAD duty to get it though.
Pi Foundation wants the broken one back to find out why it got through QA testing. They want the Pi400 so that's what I'm sending them. They will send me the equivalent value in Pi swag for my troubles. I don't need a second Pi400, especially one with a broken keyboard. Buying a keyboard to fix it is extra expense and I end up with extra bits. The keyboard has a USB hub in it that I don't need or want that I'd have to pay for anyway. It could be fun not knowing what they are going to send back. I might even wait till Christmas to open it lol.

I briefly thought about giving that a go. Thing is, it will break the Pimoroni (and likely other) software installers. Use a spare SD card I guess and swap them if you want to tinker with some hardware on the GPIO.
