Your likely running into a "what version of Raspbian" was that tutorial written for issue? Things you used to have to do, you don't now, or its done a different way. You edit a different file etc. Its crossed me up once or twice.
Are you trying this on Buster? That might not be the best plan?

I have no idea how accurate this is, but here is the new Pi 4 GPIO pinout function list. The Pi 4 has a lot more alternate functions for the GPIO Pins. You can have more than one i2c bus now etc.

It's not as bad as it looks. The defaults for each pin are as they are now. It only gets complicated if you want to change a function for a Pin. On the plus side you now have more options, extra i2c buses, and more uarts etc.
I'll give you an example of where I think this is a good thing. I have an LED Shim on my weather clocks. Right now I can only connect 1. The LED Shim doesn't have a change address function and you can't have two devices with the same address on the i2c bus. Now I can setup a second or even third separate i2c bus, each with an LED Shim on it. Coding it in Python may be fun but I now have that option. Right now I can show temperature "or" pressure on the 1 LED Shim.

It can get tricky with older stuff you bought way back when. Especially if its in the discontinued list. I have a BMP180 that only shows up in the product list on Adafruit if you do a search for it. Its been replaced by newer stuff like the BMP280 etc. I dug it out of my parts box to use with my Unicorn Hat. I needed something to read temperature from for testing some code to display the temperature on the Unicorn hat HD. It was there doing nothing so I used it.

My DS3231's almost always got broke with a new release of Raspbian. Then I'd have to wait for Adafruit to update the tutorial. Or Google it to death to find what changed. It didn't happen every time, but often enough to be a PITA.

Do you need to extend the touch pads? If not your drum hat or piano hat may be a better option. I have a piano hat you can have if you need one. Phil @ Pimoroni gave it to me and I haven't ever used it. Other than to play with it and make sure it worked.
More free goodies on the way from Phil. I don't want to say what goodies until I see the shipping notice. One of the items he offered me is out of stock so I just have to hurry up and wait lol. More rewards for helping out on thier forums.

no need to extend touch pads ,it uses wires with alligator clips,i'll get it working eventually, I have sdcard with it installed ,and it partly works , the adafruit examples dont work ,but code from a five finger drummer works ,just need to alter the code, and add some more sound files , for the rest of the sensors , ,Raspberry Pi Music Fingers: 14 Steps (with Pictures)

thanks for the offer , i good, the drum and piano is working fine ,not touching that ,with my luck and stupid mistakes ,,,
