Another option is to use a "Bluetooth Audio Transmitter/Receiver Wireless Adapter".

Normally I plugged my wired speakers into the laptop's 3.5mm audio input connector.
I borrowed one of these adapters from a friend. I used it this way:
    • Plugged wired speakers into adapter's 3.5mm input connector
    • Paired adapter to Bluetooth on laptop

Some things have changed as PiOS has been updated. I have a couple of these Hubs with WIFI in them. I used them with my A+'s. They were plug and play and worked right after first boot. Don't work now even after doing an update upgrade with a different WIFI adapter.

There is a new Imager version 1.5. Likely was released with the new PiOS images.
Raspberry Pi OS – Raspberry Pi

Flashing my Kington HyperX USB3 thumb drive to try on my Pi400.

EDIT: My Pi400 booted up from my USB thumb drive no problem after imaging it with the Pi imager.

Changes I don't like ! I hope this is not a sign of things to come ,I have a hard enough time now doing things I know a bit about, I don't need things to start changing now !

My Pi 4B also booted up no problem from that same USB thumb drive I used on my Pi400.
@caperjack The switch to Pulse Audio is I think going to break a whole bunch of stuff. A lot of the Pimoroni Pirate Audio etc are I'm thinking going to have issues.

Ok, I did read a bit about that switch ,I would think as long a I don't do update -upgrade on the 3 Pi Zero's I have setup for playing music ,,Not in the mood to have to start doing over my, pHAT DAC ,pHAT Beat and Speaker pHAT .Even if my ittty bitty beat box doesn't get any use ,unless the grandkids are here ,and that's not very often .

Yeah, if you don't do an upgrade update you should be fine. Especially dedicated headless setups like the Beat Box. There is no security risk etc if your not browsing the Internet on them. If it doesn't need WIFI, like my Beat Box, I turn the WIFI off. I only enable it if it needs it to work like my Pirate Radio. My last Pirate Radio setup went years on an old version of Raspbian.

Anybody else notice the square rainbow splash screen is gone on bootup?
Fine by me as I always disabled it anyway.
