I see what you mean now about Malwarebytes, and having to change the setting to unregistered .....never had to before thou.
Wonder if MB will come out with a fix....

Not 100% sure, but I believe that's by design, on MS part. With MBAM registered, Defender let's it be the primary AV, and gives you the option for periodic scans, if you want. If Defender is not Primary, it doesn't pop the icon in the tray. Assuming this is what you're talking about. It's early and my caffeine level is bare minimum!

Morning TC. I set it to "Let Malwarebytes decide". I guess if you have traces of Norton still around it might get confused.

Nope Keith, that is on This pc, my Beast .....not the 2nd pc that had Norton on it. I've always used "Let Malwarebytes decide" option but now it confuses Defender and then Defender turns itself off. If I change MB to unregistered, then Defender is a happy camper...

As far as Defender's icon TC no matter what my setting is in MB .....the defender icon always shows on my taskbar Also on my 2nd pc finally too. No trace of Norton left on the 2nd PC now either.

Do this test Keith ....click on MB in your taskbar and select QUIT MB .....then see if Defender warns you....that both your antivirus apps are off...
