When you say "scale hives" does this mean the hive sits on an electronic scale permanently and it sends you data?

    Pretty sophisticated.
Yep they sit on the scale 24/7 and a computer program takes a weight reading every 1.5 minutes. here is a screen shot If you have VNC viewer I can give you the address to see the screen.

    Morning Mike

    Afternoon Keith

Very neat beeman. Assume they are wireless. Don't have VNC.

The weight looks like it drops each day, would that be bees leaving the hive, then goes up, bees returning with pollen, then decreases, bees eating and cleaning?

Yep bees leaving and returning cause weight changes. Nectar has a very high water content the weight that you see decreasing during the night is the water content evaporated from the nectar. The bees doing a cleaning flight happens around 3PM to 4PM. Everything is wired to the computer and the only thing that is wireless is the connection to the router.

I must ask the guy I get honey from if his son's operation is as automated as yours.

    Morning Josey

How is that eye of yours? Do you have to go back to see specialists in the next couple of months?/

I imagine so. Scales can't be cheap and I know you monitor a bunch of touch points in your Processing area.

Just the scale is $4.5 g's the temperature transmitters are $1.5 g's each and there are two, the Sunmeter sensor is $800 plus $1.4 for the read computers which is used by all the other sensors + the rain gauge $600

I now only monitor 7 I used to Monitor 10 but found they did not give me any useful data for honey production (BP, wind speed and direction) so I took them out.
