Afternoon Keith, i'm on Victoza, Lantus, Novolog, Glip/Met, Invokana... @Wynona deck is laid out on either 16 or 24 inches...
I agree, DM, but when putting down a railing, I had rather be safe than sorry, which is why I'd use two screws per foot. Especially since Ken's deck is pretty high.

    Morning David

I think I will have fifteen posts and four screws per posts.

Thanks for the ideas. My goal will to have railing last ten years. By then the structure will need replacing.
What are the dimensions of your deck, Ken? IIRC, posts can be approximately 4' to 6' apart with spindles in between, and a top and bottom rail.

It's been a few years since I've done any real building, except for my chickens' house.

Deck is 32 feet wide and the sides are 16 feet. So 64 feet of railing.

Currently each bracket, one on each side of post is held in with four 2 1/2 screws to the deck. So eight screws. Then the posts are attached to each bracket with four screws and there is at least one screw from the underside. So nine holding post.

I was figuring on four per metal post, one each corner of each post. I want this to be secure+.

    Evening Andre.

Heading off to the gas fireplace store this afternoon.

This is going to be a busy year.

You have 15 posts (including the metal posts?) with 14 spaces of approximately approximately 4.5' in between. Although it seems pretty stable to me, but I'd still fasten those spaces down to be on the safe side. An extra 45 screws won't make that big a dent in your wallet and may prevent someone crashing through if there should be a weak spot in the bottom rail. Top rail is pretty important too. I would create a "T", kind of like they do on saw horses.

By the time we get through building, this will be like Ft. Knox; impossible to break through!

    Morning / afternoon all.

A little snow in the grass today, will all melt later this week. Supposed to get up to 66F Thursday.

I hate it when they dilate your pupils. There are different drugs out there. My doc switch to a fast acting drug 10 years back, Cyclogel. My eyes were dilated for two days. I went in and said WT& and he said it can happen. Doesn't use it any more.

beeman, stainless screws will be very costly, what about these screws they advertise as deck screws, some look to be brass. Need to secure new railing.
Good Afternoon Ken Stainless steel screws are cheaper than new railing because the screws rusted out.
