Ohhhhhhhhhh, yeah! After I bought my monitor yesterday, I have a need for HDMI to DVI for one of my monitors. I could get a 6 ft cable from Amazon with gold connectors for $6.99. Since I was already going to Walmart for laundry stuff, I decided to look at Wally World and Office Depot for the cable before ordering from Amazon.
Neither store had the actual cable; they only had the "pigtail" adapters and those were $16.99! At both stores! More than double the price of the more convenient cable! Sheesh!
No wonder they're closing the brick and mortar stores right and left!
I don't do anything that I would see difference in HDMI / DisplayPort.
On this machine I use one of each.
I think HDMI is newer than DVI, but I'm not 100% sure. My 1050 ti video card has one HDMI and one DVI, so I'm limited to one monitor of each. Which is why I had to get the HDMI to DVI cable so I can use my Samsung 24" as a second monitor. Both monitors have only VGA and HDMI; I forgot to check when I bought the Acer 27" yesterday, but it's easily fixed.
Does monitor support 4k at high refresh rates?

I looked up DVI vs HDMI and here's a pretty good explanation of both and maybe some more too:
Whats the Difference Between HDMI and DVI? Which is Better?
I use HDMI on the main monitor and DVI on the other two. My card only has two DVI ports along with 2 HDMI, but I prefer HDMI any way.
