I have a music/videos drive that was 1.4TB of actual data. The MR image itself is 1.4TB

Normally when I run a Macrium Image copy I get about a 40% reduction using medium compression.

Yesterday I use Macrium for the first time on my "Data" drive a it was compressed 5%. My data drive has lots of pictures, music and documents which I thought would be a good candidate for compression, apparently not. Thoughts?

Morning Mike. We get four, two we pay for and two town papers. The pay for papers are getting smaller every year. Soon they will be gone.
Pictures, videos and music are already heavily compressed so MR doesn't do much with them.

    Thanks AD.

Have to rethink approach is this is case.

    Thanks Keith for confirming.

Any MR users making use of Incrementals? I see you can set the number to keep to say something like 10 and it just combines them to keep 10. Is this a long process?

I do not use incrementals or the differentials. I only use full images. Cannot help in this matter but I consider having incrementals or differentials not good at all. It requires keeping a full image + the other smaller ones. Just more space taken up.

Yes but a full backup daily of 261GB is a lot of resource. The Incrementals are just the changes. Should be very small, easy to process.

I was thinking of the incrementals for my "Data" to capture the files I create or download.

I don't need that detail for System images and like you I just use fulls. Go back to one, restore it and then "update" my way back.

I tested incrementals with create a synthetic full when it first came out. It worked well for me with daily incrementals over a period of about six months. The creation of the synthetic full backup didn't take that long for me but I was testing on a fairly small dataset.

I stopped using it because I don't really like using incrementals as it only takes one corrupt file to break the chain. I only use them now where I need to do a before and after.

Wow you got a lot of files to back up, I only backup my C: drive and its only 43GB and that is all my Windows 10 and programs.

I prefer to use a "copy file" approach to data backups. I use FreeFileSync to mirror my data directories on a daily basis. Since this only mirrors changes it is very fast after the initial copy. You can also chose to archive the old versions of files you change or delete.
