I wondered if you right click and Archive whether it would create an Archive folder but no, to see archived emails you have to look in the All Mail folder.

If I play with it and change the left pane to show All Folders, I get the Archives, but only for my Hotmail account....not Gmail.

Wierd, but I love the new folder Archives..... No need for all mail since I archive old stuff. I can load the web gmail if I need to get to anything I star or w/e.

So it's not a Gmail folder, it's one created by Thunderbird.

It has to be.....

I have rebooted and restarted Tbird. I don't know why it is there, but I am loving it. Like I said, 64bit Tbird with gmail, via IMAP and it shows as in my pic.

If it was a Tbird folder it would not be in the gmail folder hierarchy, right?

I clipped it right under my gmail addy. So yes

There is certainly no Archives folder in my Online Gmail so i don't know.
