    Done some test

    1)
Downloaded U1804 and installed iso - memory demand = 4815
    2) Used Quick Create - memory demand = 4754 (slight difference to 1 is not significant imo)
    3)
Downloaded U1604 and installed iso - memory demand = 3194 - bigger than might be expected but much lower than U1804!

Do you geeks think configuration version has anything to do with this?

No because I have only just moved to 9.0 - was using 8.2 when we noticed this before.

Also some of those replies are bs about dynamic ram and sql sucking up allocated space imo.

Here is 1804 running on vm set with start RAM 2048, Dynamic Max set to 2048

It still wants a lot and gives warning.

My conclusion is it is fubared!

I need to do some serious testing, as soon as I can. My old laptop is simply too slow and low specs, I can't run virtual machines on that, and as you saw yesterday, too slow to do any presenting and stuff. The better one from which the screenshot in this post is from have been giving me this past week and half:

I can bypass that and run without the fans, but the temps go to high 80's in Celsius directly after boot:

Running a VM, system shuts down after 10 - 15 minutes due overheating.

No warranty, have to wait to get it fixed.

Kari, for what you do, you should seriously consider building a desktop computer with good specs.

@Kari and @cereberus this might interest you about Memory Demand: Hyper-V Dynamic Memory Configuration Guide | Microsoft Docs
See: To create a Data Collector Set to monitor memory allocation

Also I found out my Hyper-V was using the outdated scheduler, it was using root instead of core:

The virtual machine uses too much memory
If a virtual machine with Dynamic Memory enabled appears to use too much memory, or does not release memory when the physical computer does not have enough available memory, you can limit the amount of memory used by the virtual machine by setting a lower value for the Maximum RAM setting.

You may notice that the amount of RAM reported by Task Manager in the guest operating system does not decrease when a virtual machine uses less RAM. This occurs because the driver reports the maximum amount of memory that the guest operating system has used since it was started.

Thing is I tried lowering max RAM and it just ignored that and ubuntu 1805 used what it wanted if you look back earlier. It just gave a warning. Something is not right.

That's one of the reasons I posted the link to use the performance counter to create and use a data collector set for when a VM is run.
