Sorry I haven't seen the deleting files first hand. I did try to help somebody that said their contacts were deleted from gmail that is only access in a browser. That was weird.

I'm really guessing like all others. That would be a strong contender but if someone is using anti ransomware they know the risks of not having a backup. It appears a bunch did not have backups.

I'll bet this is very complex set of conditions and likely more than one set. I think I've read some have had Onddrive running, others not, some local id's, some MS, some with this update process or the assistant.

Wouldn't that be something though, your idea of anti-malware, and this was a repeat of the vendors not telling MS what they were actually doing under the covers and that caused it. Boy MS would create the biggest finger pointing gif available and say it was these scoundrels.
Sorry, looks like I've remembered wrong person about wrong data.. happen. Still no reliable source then

Wasn't somebody here talkin' about helping someone with files deleted?? Ah, too many threads, and was just browsing the news... It would be interesting to know. But We will eventually find out (the truth is out there!)

Nope. No kidding. Not my main box OS. A separate physical 1803 OS under a different MS account. A test bed. I had it set up like an almost newbie would. Whatever MS recommended, I took. Even stuff it with frivolous (not dangerous) apps. All the stuff that generates Support Thread posts! I noticed it when I went to do an Mr backup. The MR Reflect folder with the defs in it is kept in Documents. MR barfed! I mounted an older image an copied it all back.

So have a seat on this couch and tell us about it.

Local or MS login account, One drive or no one drive, Update assistant or check for updates.

How did that make you feel ?
