In the UK it just means for a short period. It is an Americanism to extend it's meaning to shortly.

And if we want to go into more detail, we say, "in a little bit"

I'm not gonna ask Martin what he would say. It would come back as some mixed dialect of Cockney, Midlands, and Orkney.

    You understand joke.

US - momentarily means "in a moment"

UK - momentarily means "for a short period"

Same word - totally different meaning but by virtue of being a cockney accented guy who studied in Midlands and has lived in Aberdeen (so contaminated with "Jockinese"), I say "Vive la difference".
