US English can be very different to UK English. It has been said that the UK and the US are two nations divided by a common language.
Said this before but still Iove this joke.

A British Diplomat was on a plane to New York but plane's final destination was California.

The US hostess announced the plane would be landing momentarily in New York.

The British Diplomat asked the hostess if he would have enough time to disembark.

I don't get it, there is a big difference between something happening momentarily, and something momentarily happening

In the UK it just means for a short period. It is an Americanism to extend it's meaning to shortly.
