A tutorial on skip&sketch might be handy?

We could demo S&S's key features, and then show how to make the tutorial including scripting eg code, info tags.

We do not have to show every feature in our tutorial - the plan here is to show HOW to do it.

A polished tutorial coukd come later (or have one pre-prepared?).

@Kari, I know you use special tools to mark your screen images but I think we could show how to do that quickly with S&S.

It makes it quite easy as you can quickly open the snipped sketch in Paint or Paint3D and add arrows, text etc. very easily.

One neat thing is you can have multiple sketches open, so easy to re-mark an image without having to backtrack.

Not sure, but I think Kari uses Screenpresso for tutorials. I'd love to learn how to use that for tutorials too.

That sounds like a good idea.

As Wynona mentioned, I use Screenpresso exclusively, but S&S is so easy that is easy to include to a tutorial session as one method to make and annotate screenshots.

However, even the free version of Screenpresso has so much more than S&S that it is the tool I recommend. Only con in free version is that once you save a screenshot with annotations, highlights, arrows and so on, you can no longer change, edit or remove them. You can add new annotations to it but those already saved cannot be modified.

An easy workaround for this is to save your annotated screenshots as JPG or PNG files on PC using Save As in Screenpresso toolbar, then when closing the screenshot editor select No when prompted to save it. This way you always have the original, not annotated screenshot available in editor, and annotated versions of it saved as image files on your PC.

Please let's not forget the focus is about how to make a tutorial, not which is the best markup tool.

I see the steps to a good tutorial are

    1) understand the subject you are teaching

    2) Go through the steps in a logical sequence avoiding shortcuts (people work that out).

    3) Present info in a clear and concise manner.

It really does not matter at this stage what tool is used for annotation from a tutorial viewpoint.

The reason I suggested S&S as the editing tool is simply because it is easy to edit with Paint and we all know how to use that.

We should not waste time on explaining how to use another tool but no problem saying there are other tools and demo at the end by all means.

I am not saying S&S is the best or only tool - just an easy starter for less experienced tutorial developers and immediately available to all users.

If we spend too much time on other tools, we have forgotten what our key objective is. KISS principle!

    4) Enter the info into TF format which itself requires a bit of skill. Definitely has some quirks - I learnt the hard way (many thanks to Brink for helping) and wish I had had a tutorial on this.

    5) Then the tutorial is ready for comments etc

Getting screenshots right is important if you want to make a good tutorial.

Having said that, I uploaded just now a PDF to OffTopic Chat channel in TenForums team:

    TenForums Live Webcast-image.png

That is a PDF print from a tutorial I made four years ago for Seven Forums. As it is in closed VIP subforum, only Seven Forums VIP members can see it: https://www.sevenforums.com/tutorial...tutorials.html

That tutorial is still for the most valid for Ten Forums (apart of video embedding, which is different on Ten Forums). You can see the PDF version on Ten Forums team. Full BBCode list at Seven Forums: Windows 7 Help Forums - BB Code List

Geeks, I have had a lot to do, and will be busy until early next week. First TF Live webcast using Teams will be on Saturday, October 20th.

The topic will be the one once cancelled, how to make tutorials.

Sorry for a late invitation, due health and other real life issues I was unsure if it would be possible this weekend. Anyway, as this first open webcast using Teams is mostly to test that everything works, I thought that also a late invitation will do. Hopefully at least a few of you can join.

Invitation is here: TF Live Webcast - How to make a tutorial October20th, 2018 - Windows 10 Forums
