OneDrive Down the Road to Madness

I don't use (and never will) OneDrive so I can't comment if it's true or not but it's hilarious nonetheless:

OneDrive Down the Road to Madness
Microsoft’s Cloud Service Leaves a Lot to be Desired

Since my primary laptop is essentially out of commission until the massive upload is done, I switch to my backup PC. But it’s acting funny, too. Really slow. Turns out, it’s downloading everything that the other computer is uploading. Yup, one of the many benefits of OneDrive is that its syncs all your files across every machine associated with your account. So whatever files are on my primary computer are now being copied to the cloud and back down to my secondary computer.

Sometimes OneDrive can uninstall itself from my computer, but otherwise I like it a lot for it's use.

Great Article ... I have stopped using OneDrive and completed uninstalled it due to the new Folder Protection Feature in the latest update. I was not a happy camper when it moved my Desktop,Documents,Pictures folders ... then proceeded to upload ALL my documents (ignoring my settings) and create duplicates of my pictures. Not only did it do all this on my laptop where OneDrive updated, it also so did it on my desktop ... even tho OneDrive on it hadn't been updated yet. Was a PITA to get it all sorted back out and get my user folders back where/how I wanted them.

If you paying attention during your Windows 10 install, there is an "only store files locally on this PC" option. Select that and only what "you" manually put up on OneDrive goes on OneDrive. I use OneDrive quit a lot. Mostly pictures on my various Raspberry Pi builds and some related python files I don't mind sharing. It's all in my public folders. It makes it easy to post links to the pictures on forums, like so, Microsoft OneDrive - Access files anywhere. Create docs with free Office Online.
I just right click the folder an select share a OneDrive link. My only beef is the basic limited storage space.

Agreed - most people do not take time to learn how to use or properly setup Onedrive. With its Files on Demand, none of the other Cloud services come close. I am lucky as I get 30GB free (I registered for the 15 GB free and also got the 15 GB camera bonus. I also get 100 GB free from a promotion for two years.

IMO none of the mainstream cloud services are a patch on Onedrive now.

When my free 100GB ends, I will probably just get Office 365 ( I get it free via a company but I expect them to remove that due to market downturn).
